Do you tend to skip over these bible verses?
John 14:12-13 'Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son.'
Sometimes verses in the bible seem to be so far from our current experience that we just tend to gloss over them, or find ways to read them in a watered down way so they are closer to our experience. Dallas Willard once said of a similar verse in Mark that we should stay with the verse and let it burn. I think he meant not to gloss over it, not to minimize it but to wrestle with the magnitude and challenge of the verse, to ask God why that isn't our current experience, be persistent, and to be open to changes that God might want to bring around in us so that our experience may grow even a tiny bit closer to the verse.
I invite you to let these verses burn in your soul.
