Body Image vs Soul Image
How often do you think about your body image, look in the mirror, check your appearance, compare your looks to someone else, worry about your weight or your greying/receding hair? Once a day? Once an hour?
It is part of the human condition, but it is also magnified by an advertisting saturated culture that wants to cultivate our discontent with our body image so we will buy things.
It may be the human condition, but God has a different condition:
1 Samuel 16:7 '...The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.'
So how often do you think about your soul image, look in the spiritual mirror, and check how you are becoming more like Christ?
Rather than just trying to stop thinking about our body image, lets try and cultivate a stronger concern with our soul image. Maybe every time you find yourself thinking about your appearance, you could use it as a trigger to ask God for His grace to make your soul a bit more like Christ.
